Free Cardiac Medical Camp for Residents of Harijan Kalyan Slum at Garcha, Kolkata

Around 65 people from Harijan Kalyan Slum, Garcha, Kolkata were examined in a medical camp organized by The Art of Living in association with The Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences at Garcha Sri Sri Vidya Mandir on 26th March, 2011.

The medical team from Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences led by Doctors Faruk Mohomad, Shivjee Singh examined the people of the slum for cardiac ailments. Blood pressure, weight checks and ECG tests were also conducted for the patients. Free medicines were given by Anup Agarwarl, a volunteer with The Art of Living. As the check-ups were in progress, flyers containing information on heart diseases and pictures of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji (Founder of The Art of Living organization) were distributed among those present.

A thorough examination of the patients later, 5 people were diagnosed to be suffering from heart ailments. During the check-ups it was found that many patients were suffering from eye problems. The Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences team, much to the delight of the patients has consented to conduct a free eye camp in the area.

In recognition of their dedication and selfless service towards the cause, The Art of Living team presented the doctors, nurses and volunteers from The Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences institute with a book by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji titled "Way back home".

The Art of Living team plans to organize many more such medical camps in the coming months especially for people in areas where such facilities are not readily available.
