Light a Lamp – Igniting Knowledge
Light a Lamp is an educational initiative for the children and adolescents staying in urban slums. Often these young people get no support from their families in pursuing their education or career. So the youth from the educated families in cities act as mentors and guide them towards a better education or job.
Often it has been found that these youth lack confidence when it comes to communicating in English during interviews. Communicative English is a weakness among the students of West Bengal. In these weekly classes the youth are taught how to converse in the foreign language.
Apart from these sessions, inspirational videos and musical evenings are also conducted at regular intervals to engage the youth. Special attention is given on the conditioning of the minds of these young people so that they become more hardworking, committed, positive in outlook, confident and inculcate the values of sharing and caring.
Presently there are in 5 Light a Lamp classes being conducted in different parts of Kolkata.
